After the success of our homemade granola and banana bread, courtesy of The Mountain Cafe Cookbook recipes, we are delighted to have signed copies of Kirsten Gilmour’s book for our guests to purchase.

Guests love to try something different, especially when it’s homemade.

We used to buy a good quality granola for the granola parfait on our breakfast menu, but now we make our own berry, or tropical wheat free granola. Which one we make depends on the weather! It’s a popular breakfast choice for guests wanting a change from the routine cooked breakfast.

The banana bread is new on the menu, added at the end of this season as a trial. It’s been so popular and has even been mentioned in TripAdivsor reviews. We serve it in a stack with fresh bananas, blueberries, caramel sauce and mint from the garden. Unfortunately we can’t grow our own bananas locally! A guest suggested trying it with apples instead so we may do this next year with the apples from the trees in our garden.

Kirsten Gilmour lives in Grantown On Spey and set up the fabulous Mountain Cafe in Aviemore. This is her first cookbook and everything we have made so far is great.

PS, the brownies aren’t for breakfast but are pretty good too – yummmmmm!!
